30 percent of registered Boston voters cast ballot by noon

Nearly 30 percent of all registered voters in Boston had cast their ballot by noon Tuesday, according to sources inside City Hall.

According to the city's tabulation, 29.7 percent of registered voters had voted by noon. By 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, 16.9 percent of all registered Boston voters had visited the voting booths.

Kerry camp: Morning turnout up significantly

Morning voter turnout in Massachusetts may have increased by more than 25 percent compared to the past three election cycles, John Kerry's Senate campaign just told PolitickerMA.com.

The Kerry camp uses a turnout model to measure where the vote total should be using an average of results from the last three elections.

Between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., the Kerry camp found that voter turnout Tuesday was up 30 percent compared to the average level it was at 10 a.m. in 2002, 2004 and 2006.

Election officials: Turnout already high

MARLBOROUGH - Election officials at the Francis J. Kane school polling place here said that they could tell turnout is going to be high as soon as the doors opened at 7 a.m.

Betty Peltekis, an election warden, said the line started forming in front of the school at 6:15 a.m. By 6:45 a.m., the line was already wrapping around the school.

Asked if she thinks turnout will reach record highs, Peltekis replied: "Oh yeah."
