Daskas ends campaign

[img_assist|nid=1328|title=Robert Daskas|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=270]LAS VEGAS-Robert Daskas' campaign has released a statement announcing the end of his campaign for congress, citing "family considerations."

The short, one-paragraph statement does not give details on the family considerations leading Daskas to drop his bid, instead focusing on the future of the 3rd Congressional District.

"The Daskas campaign has every confidence that another strong, viable candidate will enter the race and unseat incumbent Jon Porter," the statement reads.

"Daskas thanks everyone for their support and asks supporters to stay focused on the common goal of changing our representative in the Third Congressional District. Democrats now hold a 22,500 voter registration advantage over Republicans in the district."

Daskas, a former Clark County chief prosecutor, began raising money last year and officially announced his campaign in December. He was immediately endorsed by Nevada Senate Minority Leader Dina Titus and Congresswoman Shelley Berkley and later received the endorsement of U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

In March, he was one of fourteen Democratic candidates facing Republican incumbents to be added to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's Red-to-Blue program in their first round of endorsements.

Daskas' withdrawal leaves Andrew Martin the only announced Democratic candidate in the race. Martin, who is on vacation in Hawaii, could not immediately be reached for comment, but spokesperson Vin Gopal said he "wishes Daskas well."

Reportedly, rather than endorsing Martin, the DCCC is courting Nevada Senate Minority Leader Dina Titus to run in Daskas' stead. Titus initially declined to run last year.

Titus, "in a meeting," also could not be reached for comment.
