Filing continues…

LAS VEGAS-As filing period continues, PolitickerNV.com will be regularly updating our list of candidates and giving you a brief summary of the races we can look forward to this year.  Here's a list of newly filed candidates.

Congressional District 3: Democrat Anna Nevenic has filed again to take on Republican Rep. Jon Porter in the suburban Las Vegas district.  Nevenic ran in 2004 and was defeated in the primary by Tom Gallagher and has also run for congress in California and the U.S. Senate in Nevada.

Senate District 3: 21-year-old Democrat Jade Zahreddine has filed to take on dean of the senate Bill Raggio in Washoe County.  Zahreddine has been running for more than a year now, but is unlikely to seriously threaten Raggio's chances for a tenth consecutive senate term.

Senate District 4: Republican Sharon Gobel and Independent American Stan Vaughan have filed to take on state Sen. Steven Horsford.  Gobel previously ran for the state senate as a Democrat in 2002 and Vaughan, a chess champion when not running for office, has unsuccessfully challenged Assemblyman Morse Arberry Jr. in the last three cycles.

Assembly District 1: Republican Linda West Myers has filed for her second challenge to Democratic Assemblywoman Marilyn Kirkpatrick.  In 2006, she received slightly less than 36 percent of the vote in the heavily Democratic district.

Assembly District 19: Republican Nicholas Daka has filed to challenge incumbent Democratic Assemblyman Jerry Claborn, who filed Monday.  The district is heavily Democratic.

Assembly District 20: Democrat Dan Briggs has filed to challenge incumbent Republican Assemblyman Joe Hardy.  The seat is heavily Republican.

Assembly District 23: Republican Melissa Woodbury has filed to succeed retiring legislator Rosemary Womack.  Woodbury, daughter of Clark County Commissioner Bruce Woodbury, will likely face Democrat Allison Herr in the fall in the Democratic-leaning district.

Assembly District 26: Republican Robb Archie has filed to challenge incumbent Republican Assemlyman Ty Cobb in the Aug. 12 primary.  This will be Cobb's first reelection campaign.

Clark County Commission D: Incumbent Democratic Commissioner Lawrence Weekly has filed for reelection.
