Prepping for presidential nominee, Dems launch coordinated campaign

LAS VEGAS-More than 300 people crowded into a strip mall office space in Las Vegas Saturday for a rally kicking off Nevada Democrats' coordinated campaign. The coordinated campaign will combine Democrats' field and organizational efforts from assembly races all the way up to the presidential level.

With volunteers signing up and the field organization growing, the only thing Democrats were missing is a guaranteed presidential candidate.

Brian Dimarzio, who previously worked for the N.Y. Sen. Hillary Clinton's Nevada campaign and was political director for the legislative caucus, will head up the field effort for the coordinated campaign in Congressional District 3. Asked about the lack of certainty about the top of the ticket, Dimarzio said, "What can we do?"

"I feel like it's important that we get out here and we get started. There's a lot of energy and excitement right now, everybody wants to start and get involved," said Dimarzio.

"The coordination will be for all of those [assembly and state senate] races and then whoever is the nominee, that just shows you the Democratic Party is going to be united behind them," said state Sen. Dina Titus, who is running for congress in CD3. "Which, I think, is a testament to the fact that we're not going to be divided after all of this long primary/caucus season."

The rally was held at Titus' new campaign office. Asked about how Democrats' organizational efforts matched up to her opponent, Republican Rep. Jon Porter, Titus said, "We certainly feel good about it."

"We don't see any signs of anything he's doing. At this stage of the campaign we're just moving forward with our message, we're not looking for tit-for-tat comparisons."

Titus had endorsed Clinton for the presidency, a nomination that is looking increasingly unlikely. Asked if she would have trouble supporting Ill. Sen. Barack Obama instead she replied, "Not a bit."

"I'm not sure she's not going to be on the ticket with him," said Titus. "So we'll just see what happens."
