Miller denies initiatives appeal

LAS VEGAS-Secretary of State Ross Miller today denied an appeal by the backers of the Education Initiative Act, the Nevada Taxpayers Protection Act and the Funding Nevada's Priorities Act to have petition signatures for the acts deemed sufficient.

Miller's office had earlier deemed the petition signatures invalid because they failed to meet all of the requirements of state law.

"It is the finding of this office," Miller wrote, "that the petitions were properly verified by the county clerks as being legally insufficient, as the petitions failed to substantially comply with statutory and constitutional requirements."
