Nev. Dems to go carbon neutral on convention trip

When the Nevada Democratic Party sends its delegation to the national convention in Denver next month, it will purchase carbon offset credits to compensate for the CO2 released in transit, the party said Thursday.

According to a statement published on the party's website, delegate Elliott Small — a Las Vegas businessman — has purchased carbon offsets for all 43 people making the trek to Denver.

“As an owner of a company that promotes green energy, I am very proud that Nevada is the third state in the nation to pledge to send a green delegation to the Denver convention,” Small said. “We hope to recruit additional sponsors to ensure the trips to Denver made by our staff, volunteers and guests also will be carbon neutral.”

The national Democratic Party has challenged all state delegates to travel carbon neutral in an effort to reduce the convention's impact on global warming.
