U.S. Rep. Jon Porter (R-Henderson) is out with his second television advertisement of the cycle, a 30- second spot that aims to paint Democratic challenger Dina Titus as a tax-raising, self-serving politician.
The ad, which hit the Las Vegas-area airwaves on Wednesday, accuses Titus, the minority leader in the state Senate, of voting for a pay raise while supporting a tax increase.
“Dina Titus. A public service that looks like, well, self service,” an announcer says in the ad. “With Nevada families struggling, she voted to triple her government-funded pension. Worse, after voting herself a pay raise, Dina voted to raise our taxes, including the largest tax increase in Nevada history and the job-killing payroll tax on small businesses.
“Dina Titus. A self-serving politician Nevada can’t trust,” the announcer concludes.
It didn’t take long for the Titus camp to push back against the spot, with a spokesman saying that the ad incorrectly tags Titus for voting to increase her pension and that it fails to mention Porter’s support for his own pay raises.
“He…seems to forget that he supported a pay raise as a member of the Boulder City Council, and his salary increased by 30 percent. And as a member of Congress, Porter’s salary has gone up by $14,600 while he has voted eight times against an increase in the minimum wage for hard-working Americans,” said Titus campaign spokesman Andrew Stoddard.
A Porter aide said the ad would be running indefinitely.
