Roll Call: Porter open to Reid challenge

U.S. Rep. Jon Porter is open to a 2010 run for U.S. Senate, he told the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call Monday.

"In January I'll take a look at the options that are out there," Porter said, according to the paper.

Porter, a three-term congressman, was ousted from his Las Vegas-area seat by Democrat Dina Titus in November. In the interview, Porter said he was currently focused on working with Titus in the transition effort.

Freedom's Watch to disband

Freedom’s Watch, the 501 (c4) organization heavily funded by Las Vegas Sands Corp. Chairman Sheldon Adelson and hyped as the conservative answer to MoveOn.org, is shutting its doors.

Ed Patru, Vice President of Communications for Freedom’s Watch, said in an interview that the organization would be effectively ceasing its operations at the end of the year.

Krolicki inches closer to Reid challenge

WASHINGTON – Nevada Lieutenant Governor Brian Krolicki confirmed in an interview Friday that he was inching closer to a 2010 challenge to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Searchlight), and said that he had begun the process of reaching out to national Republicans in an effort to lay the groundwork for a bid.

Returns show Titus, Heller leading

Early returns are showing Republican Dean Heller and Democrat Dina Titus leading in the races for the 2nd and 3rd Congressional Districts.

With 25.9 percent of the votes counted, Heller is leading Democrat Jill Derby 49.6 to 43.9 percent.

In the 3rd Congressional district, Titus is leading Republican incumbent Jon Porter 47.6 percent to 42.1 percent.

Report: 75,000 in Clark County by 10:30

Elections officials are estimating that 75,000 people had turned out to the polls in Clark County today by 10:30 AM, Jon Ralston is reporting in his Ralston Flash.

With 434,000 people in the state already voting early or by mail, turnout is now over the 500,000 mark.

Obama state director passes

Terence Tolbert, who served as Nevada State Director for the Obama campaign, passed away from a heart attack Sunday night.

In a statement today, Obama said, “I was shocked and saddened to learn about the passing of our Nevada State Director, Terence Tolbert.
