Emanuel to stand with Titus during education event Wednesday

U.S. Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.) will stand beside congressional candidate Dina Titus as she receives the endorsement of the Nevada Education Association at a press conference Wednesday afternoon, her campaign announced Tuesday.

Titus (D-Henderson) will get the nod from the state's teachers' union at a 2 p.m. event in Las Vegas.

The presence of Emanuel, chair of the House Democratic Caucus, is yet another sign that the national Democratic organization is supporting Titus' bid to unseat incumbent U.S. Rep. Jon Porter (R-Henderson).

American Future Fund ad hits Reid on energy

A new radio ad from the conservative advocacy group American Future Fund knocking U.S. Senate Majority Harry Reid's (D-Searchlight) energy positions began airing Friday around the state.

The ad -- called "What will Harry say?" -- centers around Reid's upcoming speech at the Democratic National Convention next week in Denver.

The ad says Reid's speech on energy will likely not address what it calls the energy failures of his tenure -- including recent moves by congressional Democrats to block a vote on expanded offshore drilling.

Derby trails Heller by 5 percent in new poll

A new Reno Gazette-Journal/KTVN poll finds Democratic challenger Jill Derby (D-Carson City) is within striking distance of incumbent U.S. Rep. Dean Heller (R-Carson City) in the 2nd Congressional District.

Derby, a former state Democratic chairwoman, trails Heller 47 percent to 42 percent, according to the poll. However, the 5 percent margin of error and recent registration swings in the 2nd District favoring Democrats suggest the poll could actually be good news for the challenger.
