Sun: Gibbons may lose GOP support, face contested reelection primary

The Las Vegas Sun's David McGrath Schwarz ran a story in Wednesday's paper about Gov. Jim Gibbons (R) and the support -- or lack thereof -- he can expect from his party as he seeks reelection in a few years.

Schwarz's story says Gibbons, whose first term has been wracked with scandal, could face a primary challenge from fellow Republicans as he seeks a second term in 2010.

Court ruling on term limits tosses 21 off ballot; 13 OK'd to run again

In a sweeping ruling handed down Friday by the Nevada Supreme Court, 21 elected officials in the state have been ruled ineligible to run for re-election because of term limits. Thirteen others, meanwhile, have been ruled eligible to run for re-election.

Melissa Woodbury to run for Assembly District 23

LAS VEGAS-With the announcement today that Republican Melissa Woodbury will run for the open 23rd Assembly District seat now held by Democrat Rosemary Womack, Las Vegas now has had two assembly candidates with a local school named for a parent announce in the last 48 hours.

Woodbury, a 39-year-old teacher from Henderson and daughter of longtime Clark County Commissioner Bruce Woodbury, has contracted with Ryan Erwin & Associates to manage her campaign and today released a statement announcing her candidacy.
