State GOP uses Specter defection to attack Harry Reid and raise money

The news wasn't a few hours old when Chairwoman Sue Lowden sent out a missive kicking Arlen Specter out the door, tying him to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and trying to raise money off the news:

My fellow Nevadans:

Today, U.S. Senator Arlen Specter turned his back on the Republican Party to join Harry Reid and his Democrat colleagues Charles Schumer, Barbara Boxer, Chris Dodd and Patrick Leahy. This was not a grand move about policy or political parties. Rather, it was a move about one person’s political survival – above all else. Arlen Specter is not a moderate joining the Democrats in Washington.

And then there were three

This is obvious, but still noteworthy: the last time the Democratic presidential candidates were in Nevada for a nationally televised debate was in November -- a virtual circus that included seven presidential candidates. Now, as the Democrats return to Las Vegas on Tuesday for their final debate before the January 19 caucus, just three candidates will participate: Hillary Clinton, John Edwards and Barack Obama.

Lee clarifies statement about Dodd’s Nevada campaign office

Chris Dodd’s Nevada campaign office has closed, according to his state campaign chairman, State Sen. John Lee (D-Clark). Lee told PolitickerNV.com last night that reports of the headquarters closing were inaccurate, but today clarified his statement to be consistent with comments from Dodd’s national campaign spokesperson.

Post-debate, presidential candidates help Clark County Dems raise cash

More than 2,000 Democrats helped raise an estimated $300,000 for Clark County Democrats at a post-debate Jefferson-Jackson dinner at the Paris Hotel that attracted eight Democratic presidential candidates.

Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean took advantage of the partisan audience – still pumped with excitement from the nationally-televised presidential debate at UNLV – to take a few shots at the Republican field for their lack of diversity.

Dodd closes Nevada campaign office

Five hours before the Democratic presidential candidates meet to debate at UNLV, Sen. Chris Dodd’s (D-CT) campaign staff has acknowledged that he has closed his Las Vegas campaign office.

“We have staff in Nevada and active supporters, we just don’t have an office in Nevada at this time,” said Colleen Flanagan, Dodd’s national press secretary.

Poll: Clinton has 51% among Nevada Dems; in a dead heat with Giuliani

On the eve of a national Democratic presidential debate in Las Vegas, a CNN/Opinion Research poll of Nevada Democratic caucus-goers shows Hillary Clinton over the magic 50% mark for the early January 19 caucus in the Silver State. Clinton leads Barack Obama by a 51%-23% margin, with John Edwards at 11%.
