Reid: Oil dependency makes America vulnerable

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Searchlight) said America needs to eliminate its dependency on oil or face the risk of growing threats to its national security during his speech at the Democratic National Convention Wednesday night.

"If we continue to follow this slippery, oil-slicked, downward-winding path, our citizens will shiver in darkness as our resources hemorrhage to Third World thugs whose only virtue is their control of petroleum-based energy," Reid said.

DENVER – Democrats are making substantial gains in the Silver State, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Searchlight) told the Nevada delegation today.

Durbin: Silver State crucial

DENVER – One of Barack Obama’s most vocal supporters in the U.S. Senate today said that Democratic prospects in Nevada were brightening.

“Now we have a fighting chance in Nevada,” U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said today, pointing to the Democrats’ 60,000 voter registration edge over Republicans.

While the Silver State offers a relatively meager five electoral votes, the state could prove crucial in a presidential election that could well come down to the wire.

Pickens appearance evolves into love-fest

DENVER – This morning’s meeting of the Nevada delegation resembled a showing of The Odd Couple.

Over croissants and rolls at the Marriott hotel, the delegation was treated to a talk from oil tycoon T. Boone Pickets on wind and solar energy, the Texan’s obsession this election cycle.
