WASHINGTON -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said today he expects Congress by year’s end to extend the $8,000 tax credit for first-time homebuyers. Reid said the program has support from both Democrats and Republicans, and continuing it would be on the agenda before Congress adjourns in December.

Funds Coming to Nevada to Combat Domestic Violence

Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) announced yesterday that the state of Nevada will be receiving $1.5 million in economic recovery funds to create jobs related to responding and preventing domestic violence in the state. This is good.

Now, I'd truly appreciate it if the Senator could reverse course on his cringing cave-in to the forces of the dark side, and announce that he understands that the country repudiated the GOP's self anointed status as "Protector of the Universe" and "Poobahs of All Things in the Name of Security -- before I have to think up parodies for the titles of five more Harry Potter books.

State GOP uses Specter defection to attack Harry Reid and raise money

The news wasn't a few hours old when Chairwoman Sue Lowden sent out a missive kicking Arlen Specter out the door, tying him to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and trying to raise money off the news:

My fellow Nevadans:

Today, U.S. Senator Arlen Specter turned his back on the Republican Party to join Harry Reid and his Democrat colleagues Charles Schumer, Barbara Boxer, Chris Dodd and Patrick Leahy. This was not a grand move about policy or political parties. Rather, it was a move about one person’s political survival – above all else. Arlen Specter is not a moderate joining the Democrats in Washington.

Danny Gans, Dead at 52

[UPDATE: LasVegasSun.Com has statements from Steve Wynn and Sens. Harry Reid and John Ensign.]

Wow. This is a sad morning for Las Vegas.

I just got off the phone with Chip Lightman, Danny Gans' manager of 18 years. He confirmed that Gans was pronounced dead at his Henderson home at 3 a.m. PT today. He was 52. Lightman said Gans had been having trouble sleeping the night before so, having no show Thursday night, he went to bed late in the afternoon.

At 1 a.m., his wife, Julie, noticed he wasn't moving, which was odd for Gans while sleeping, she said. She called 911 and they declared him dead.

Win One, Lose One: House passes Credit Cardholder's Bill of Rights, Senate Defeats Durbin Amendment

The Durbin Amendment (S.Amdt 1014 to S. 896) went down to defeat today in the U.S. Senate, with Senator John Ensign (R-NV) one of those giving it a shove. [roll call 174] Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) voted in favor of the amendment. Senator Durbin explained his amendment to help homeowners in foreclosure in an “a/v clip” posted to his webpage. Thus, we might answer “Is the Senate owned by Banks?” with a 'yes.' The final vote was 45-51, with Democrats Baucus, Bennet (CO), Byrd, Carper, Dorgan, Johnson, Landrieu, Lincoln, Nelson (NE), Pryor, Specter, and Tester voting with the GOP.

Arlen Specter CHANGES PARTY

BOY! The underlying drama of each day in the White House lately is so bizarre; even Stephen King couldn't make this crap up!

79 year old Pennsylvania Senator, Arlen Specter today (after closed door meetings with Harry Reid & the ilk), decided the only chance he has to win his next election bid in 2010 is to CHANGE PARTIES and become a Democrat! Pat Toomey almost beat him in the last election, and will most likely beat him for sure in 2010.

DEMOCRATS - BE VERY AWARE OF THIS MAN - THIS POST IS NOT ABOUT POLITICS - THIS REGARDS SERIOUS CHARACTER FLAWS!

Specter's decision now gives the Senate the desperately desired 60 vote majority that is filibuster- proof.

Michele Beard NEW Nevada GOP Chairman (Washoe County/Reno) - Harry Reid NO MORE!

Tonight, Reno, NV made history. Reno is Washoe County, and we elected a new President/Chair for the Washoe County Republicans. CONGRATULATIONS! TO MICHELE BEARD!

NOW FOR MY NATIONAL READERS...IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ ALL OF THIS...SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM PARAGRAPH...IT'S IMPORTANT AS HELL...

Sounds simple enough, but it's NOT! Washoe County has about 500,000 citizens...along with the rural counties that add a few more to Northern Nevada. Reno is the forever "labeled" red-headed step child of Las Vegas (Clark County). It's NOT! Reno, Sparks/Washoe County IS THE BACKBONE of the Nevada Republican Party and the DIRE DESIRE to become what the GOP used to stand for.

Reject Reid Tea Party Protest - Nevada Tea Parties

Nevada spoke out today in fine fashion. In Carson City, NV our capitol, crowd estimates are between 2000-3000. The streets were lined with law abiding, tax paying, fiscally responsible, AMERICAN patriots whom have been labeled by the Obama DHS as "right wing extremists", this link IS THE REPORT. The funny side of that is that among our thousands that held tea parties in Nevada today...MANY were in fact Democrats. Welcome Democrats to the "domestic terrorist" category LOL! (Pictures from Carson from KRNV Channel 4 Reno). I even saw one sign that said "Obama-YES - Harry Reid - NO".
