Reid on Clinton: 'She's the best'

DENVER – U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Searchlight) has asked U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) to deliver the Democrats’ weekly radio address and she has accepted, Reid told a meeting of the Nevada delegation this morning.

Reid used his brief remarks at the breakfast meeting to heap praise on Clinton, who narrowly failed in her bid to capture the nomination. On Wednesday, Clinton released her delegates to the party’s newly minted presidential nominee, Barack Obama.

Today's convention schedule

The third day of the Democratic National Convention will be called to order at 5:00 PM EST on Wednesday, with a theme of "Securing America's Future."

The day will begin with the nominating process for President, including nominating speeches for U.S. Sens. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Barack Obama (D-Ill.), followed by a roll call vote.

The headline speaker will be vice presidential nominee, U.S. Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.).

Harriford: Clinton to come out for Obama

DENVER - Tracy Harriford, a delegate-alternate at the Democratic National Convention, has a prediction: Hillary Clinton is coming out for primary rival Barack Obama in her primetime speech tonight.

“I’m very interested in what she has to say,” said Harriford, who backed Obama in the primary. “I think she will be supporting of Obama because she understands what the causes are and what the issues are.”

Smith sees Clinton speech as opportunity

DENVER - State Assemblywoman Debbie Smith (D-Sparks) supported Barack Obama in the hotly contested Democratic primary. When Hillary Clinton delivers her keynote speech tonight, Smith said, Clinton will have the opportunity to bring her supporters to Obama’s side.

“She has the ability to bring the delegates along and give them some inspiration,” Smith said in the lobby of the Marriott hotel this morning.

The second day of the Democratic National Convention will be called to order at 5:00 PM EST today, with a theme of "Renewing America's Promise."  Featured speakers include Gov. Kathleen Sebelius (D-Kan.), U.S. Sen. Robert Casey, Jr. (D-Pa.), Gov. Deval Patrick (D-Mass.), and Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D-Mont.). The keynote speaker will be Gov. Mark Warner (D-Va.), followed by the headline prime-time speaker, U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.).

Lieberman says Dem delegation has 'come a long way'

Obama to speak in Reno Sunday

The Reno Gazette Journal is reporting that presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama will appear in Reno on Sunday.

Obama, the junior U.S. senator from Illinois, is scheduled to appear at a town hall meeting in front of a few hundred area residents with tickets to the event.

The appearance is Obama's first to northern Nevada since U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) conceded the nomination, the paper reports. Clinton appeared last weekend in Henderson on Obama's behalf.
