Today's convention schedule

The third day of the Democratic National Convention will be called to order at 5:00 PM EST on Wednesday, with a theme of "Securing America's Future."

The day will begin with the nominating process for President, including nominating speeches for U.S. Sens. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Barack Obama (D-Ill.), followed by a roll call vote.

The headline speaker will be vice presidential nominee, U.S. Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.).

Obama Nevada camp says Biden will help deliver the Silver State

Barack Obama’s Nevada campaign is arguing that U.S. Sen. Joe Biden’s addition the ticket will help the Illionois Senator win the state’s five electoral votes.

An Obama Silver State spokeswoman told PolitickerNV.com that, at a time when Nevada was feeling the economic pressure, Biden had an ability to connect to working-class voters.

“He has a working class background and will create jobs in places like Nevada, where unemployment is inching up,” explained Obama spokeswoman Kirsten Searer.

McCain Nevada camp: Biden a 'critic' of Obama

While many Democrats are applauding Barack Obama’s vice presidential pick of U.S. Senator Joe Biden  (D-Delaware), John McCain’s Nevada campaign insists the selection won’t put the Illinois senator over the top in the Silver State.

“Barack Obama has selected a running mate who doesn’t believe he’s ready to be president,” said Rick Gorka, a McCain Nevada campaign spokesman, noting that Biden had criticized Obama for voting to cut off funding for troops in Iraq.

Now, as the Democrats return to Las Vegas on Tuesday for their final debate before the January 19 caucus, just three candidates will participate: Hillary Clinton, John Edwards and Barack Obama.

Biden gets Nevada Plumbers and Pipefitters endorsement

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Joe Biden has received the endorsement of the Nevada Plumbing, Pipefitting, and Refrigeration Workers UA Local 525.

 “Joe Biden has always been there for organized labor and that record is important to us. He’s also the only candidate who has a plan to get us out of the war and who is aware of the domestic problems we face, like the economy, and knows how to fix them,” said UA Local 525 Business Manager Brett McCoy.
