Me & My Camera...

Many people read this blog - some from far places. THIS post is for my NEVADA readers :)

I feel like I NEED to write this. I only got involved in politics since the caucus in 2008. I got fired up, and I haven't stopped being fired up since :) I just returned from a special event tonight, and thinking along the lines of what I need to say? WHO better to say it to than your dogs on your own back porch :) It's OK to sit in a nice dress in a lounge chair on your own back porch and talk to the dogs about politics :)

BUT - love my pictures - and I must have video of every politician from city council, to mayor, to congressman, to governor.

GOP: Ensign affair hurt efforts to field Reid opponent

WASHINGTON -- The head of the Republican campaign arm in the Senate acknowledged Wednesday that Republican Sen. John Ensign’s affair has disrupted the political landscape for his party in Nevada as it tries to field a challenger to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Senator Ensign's Invisible Ink: The Covenant No One Else Can See?

Senator John Ensign (R-NV) has announced his opposition to the confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor as a member of the U.S. Supreme Court, saying: “While I believe Judge Sotomayor is an impressive role model for millions of Americans, I take my responsibility as Nevada’s Senator very seriously, and feel I need to protect the sanctity of our Constitution. “Judge Sotomayor’s record and testimony provide uncertainty and doubt that she will rule with a fair and impartial adherence to the rule of law." [LV Sun] Frankly, this comment is little more than GOP boiler-plate. Being unable to cite actual examples of unfair and biased rulings, and having to contort her position in the Ricci Case (in which she upheld precedent, the 'rule of law') to say that in that particular ruling she should have been an 'activist' judge and reversed precedent before the Supreme Court did so, the Republican opponents are constrained to make vague statements about “uncertainty and doubt.

Interim Finance Committee Clips Gibbons' Wings: Stimulus Coordinator To Be Classified, Not Appointed Position

The Las Vegas Sun described the Nevada Interim Finance Committee's actions to curtail Governor Jim Gibbons' handling of ARRA funds (stimulus) and to place oversight under the direction of a person who must go through the vetting process for hiring classified personnel, instead of an individual appointed by the Governor.

The Governor wanted 10 positions to oversee stimulus funds, later pared to 3. The Legislature said "No." If the Governor did the same kind of job explaining the need for all these positions that he did during the Legislative session explaining his budget requests, it's no wonder the Legislature wasn't having any of this.

New Legislation OR Pre-Planned Conspiracy?

I SWEAR - I'm NOT a Conspiracy Theorist! However...I'm living in a time unlike anything I've ever seen in my lifetime, and I'm 46.

Each new "regulation", or "new law" up to and including BOTH my "Obama" administration AND my Nevada legislation...has creepily had RESULTS BEFORE the ink was dry on the paper!

Obama signs a new bill...within 3 days I get new updates on my business software to compensate for the new expenditures/rules! My Nevada legislature signs a new law, and before the ink is dry I get a letter in the mail explaining the NEW way I must fill out tax forms and / or I get a strange check in the mail that might benefit me TODAY, but it WON'T benefit future home buyers!

Is all this stuff pre-planned? HOW CAN IT BE.

Obama Makes My Jaw Drop

I swear...I never thought I'd live to see the things happening right before my own eyes today. One man managed in 6 months to spend more money than ever before in 30 administrations before him. One man has managed to appall the masses (even the ones that voted for him)...

The last time I "overly" shook my head was when Jimmy Carter was in office. But today, I'm beginning to think I've contracted a terminal case of both Parkinson's Disease and TMJ all at the same time! I walk around each day with my head continually shaking and my jaw dropped (it's locked in that dropped position), as I watch my President throwing away 200+ years of history.

The Senate Moves Along: More Vetoes Over-ridden

The Nevada Senate continues:
AB 463: 21-0 veto over-ridden. Transmit to Assembly.
AB 467: Prevailing wage requirements. Remarks: Hardy - will abstain, no additional. Over-ride 18-2-1NV. Transmit to Assembly.
AB 121: Health Care Facility Staffing Plan. Remarks: none. 21-0 over-ridden. Transmit to the Assembly.
Brief Recess.
*Just a question, but if a person were aware that his or her vetoes were going to get over-ridden by substantial bi-partisan majorities -- why bother to veto the bills?

Reconsider AB 454 conference committee report failure - no additional remarks. Chair asks for division of the house; member asks for quick recess.

Nevada Headlines: Anti-Government Advocates Strip Votes

Reporter J. Patrick Coolican (LV Sun) explains how Robert Uithoven (the Republican consultant who gave us our 11% re-electability governor) and other anti-tax/government forces are trying to use the 'day jobs' of Nevada state legislators to strip votes away from tax proposals, by filing "ethics complaints." 'Conflict of interest' also came into play as a state judge rules that the State AG has one in the prosecution of Lt. Governor Brian "Missing Contracts" Krolicki; the judge did NOT dismiss the charges against him. A hearing June 3rd will determine who leads the continuing prosecution. [LV Sun]

Funds Coming to Nevada to Combat Domestic Violence

Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) announced yesterday that the state of Nevada will be receiving $1.5 million in economic recovery funds to create jobs related to responding and preventing domestic violence in the state. This is good.

Now, I'd truly appreciate it if the Senator could reverse course on his cringing cave-in to the forces of the dark side, and announce that he understands that the country repudiated the GOP's self anointed status as "Protector of the Universe" and "Poobahs of All Things in the Name of Security -- before I have to think up parodies for the titles of five more Harry Potter books.

Bill that would loosen smoking restrictions dies

A bill to allow taverns that permit smoking to also serve food has died in the Assembly Judiciary Committee without a vote.

This is the final day for committees to process bills and Committee Chairman Bernie Anderson, D-Sparks, asked his members if they wanted to bring up any bill for a vote. None suggested a vote on Senate Bill 372 to amend Nevada’s Clean Air Act.
