Nevada Dems file ethics complaint against Gibbons

The Nevada Democratic Party has filed a complaint with the state Commission on Ethics over a tax break Gov. Jim Gibbons'
requested and received from the Elko County Assessor's office, the Associated Press is reporting.

The request stems from news reports last week stating that Gibbons sought to reclassify a tract of undeveloped land he owns in Elko County as agricultural, reducing his tax burden from $5,000 to $15 thanks to a tax break for farmers and ranchers.

Nev. Dems to go carbon neutral on convention trip

When the Nevada Democratic Party sends its delegation to the national convention in Denver next month, it will purchase carbon offset credits to compensate for the CO2 released in transit, the party said Thursday.

According to a statement published on the party's website, delegate Elliott Small — a Las Vegas businessman — has purchased carbon offsets for all 43 people making the trek to Denver.

Western Democratic leaders pan McCain, tout registration gains

LAS VEGAS-Once every Democrats' favorite Republican, Ariz. Sen. John McCain drew fire from Democratic leaders in four Western states today, including Nevada, in a conference call timed to coincide with the Republican presidential nominee's fundraising swing through the Rocky Mountain West.

"We don't believe that [McCain] has an advantage in the West, despite his coming from a western state," said Colorado Democratic chairwoman Pat Waak.

Lawsuit over, Nevada Dems try unity for a change

Las Vegas- Shortly after a federal judge ruled that at-large caucus sites could go forward as planned, Clark County Democratic chairman John Hunt and Nevada Democratic chairwoman Jill Derby issued a joint press release declaring that the party is “unified” in their commitment to turn out Nevadans for the Jan. 19 caucus.
