Second house bill deadline day

Today's the Legislature's second committee deadline, meaning all non-exempt bills must make it out of committee or they "die." Of course, die is a relative term here in Carson City as many measures crop up again as an amendment on the floor or in conference committee.

The most watched bill today appears to be SB 372, which would soften the voter-approved indoor smoking ban. As it is stands now the bill would allow adults-only smoking bars to serve food and would allow smoking inside convention halls during tobacco industry gatherings.

The Assembly Judiciary Committee recessed this morning without taking a vote on the measure, but Assemblyman Bernie Anderson, D-Sparks, was non-committal when asked whether he would reconvene for a vote later today.
