Scannell asked to resign over pot vote

Manchester Mayor Frank Guinta has asked State Rep. David Scannell (D-Manchester) to resign from his position as spokesman for the Manchester School District.

Guinta wants Scannell to resign because Scannell voted in favor a House bill that would decriminalize small amounts of marijuana.

"He interacts with kids on a daily basis, and he is taking a position to decriminalize marijuana. That is counter to logic, in my view," Guinta told The Union Leader.

Scannell said he stood by his vote and would not resign.

Guinta did not say whether he would request the resignation from three Manchester firefighters who also voted in favor of the bill.
