Shea-Porter returns from Iraq

Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester) has returned from her second visit to Iraq.

During her visit, Shea-Porter visited an Iraqi marketplace, met with troops and had a ninety-minute meeting with Ambassador Ryan Crocker and General David Petraeus.

Shea-Porter praised the efforts of American troops but called the current situation "not acceptable."

"While our troops have made a tremendous effort, which has resulted in a decrease in violence since my visit to Iraq last year, I repeatedly heard the progress called ‘fragile' and the political improvement described as ‘small steps.' That is not acceptable after five years, many deaths and injuries, and billions of American dollars poured into Iraq," Shea-Porter said.

She added, "We're spending $1 billion dollars of American money every two and a half days at a time when our people need us to invest at home."
