[img_assist|nid=1893|title=Five Republicans filing for Executive Council|desc=Politicker Photo|link=none|align=left|width=420|height=249]CONCORD - Five Republican candidates filed for Executive Council today with the Secretary of State running on a platform for change, fiscal responsibility and better representation with local government.

Among the five, of course, was Ray Burton (R-Bath), incumbent Executive Councilor is running for re-election in District 1. If re-elected, Burton would be the longest serving Executive Councilor in New Hampshire history, according to Secretary of State Bill Gardner.

Burton pledged to continue bringing effective representation to the people in his district.

Russell Prescott (R-Exeter) is a former State Senator and is representing District 3. Prescott was honored to stand with four other Republicans that stood for change.

"New Hampshire isn't used to budget shortfalls," Prescott said. "This is a historic time in getting New Hampshire back to the people. I plan on working hard for the people and watching the bottom line."

Stephen Stepanek (R-Amherst) is a current state representative and a candidate running for a seat in District 5. Stepanek described his extensive business background and training in economics and finance as significant skills that he can bring to the Executive Council.

"I think I can bring a critical eye to the council," he said. "We need to get back to basics for this state". Stepanek wants to ensure taxpayer's money is being spent efficiently and also emphasized the need to practice fiscal responsibility.

Daniel St. Hilaire (R-Concord) is a Merrimack County attorney running for a seat in District 2.

"I am running to give a voice back to the people of District 2 so that they have input on important decisions facing the state," St. Hilaire said. The Executive Council is to make sure we are spending money efficiently and that the services tax payers deserve is available he said.

Raymond Wieczorek (R-Manchester) is an incumbent Executive Councilor and former mayor of Manchester. This is his 14th election.

"It just feels like another election," he said. He is happy to be filing again and pleased to be a good representative for the people of his district.

"I think the Executive Council is important and it's why New Hampshire is so unique," Wieczorek said. One of the most important services the Executive Council can provide is constituent services he said.
