Dodds arraigned in Portsmouth

According to The Union Leader, a Portsmouth District Court has set Gary Dodds bail at $25,000 for personal recognizance and $10,000 cash.

Dodds, who was convicted earlier this year of staging his own disappearance in an attempt to promote his 2006 congressional bid, was charged this morning with simple assault and bail violations stemming from an altercation with his wife, last Thursday. A hearing will be held tomorrow to determine whether or not to revoke Dodds' bail.

Dodds wife, Cindy, told police that Dodds climbed into her car at a local mall and ordered her to the hospital for a mental evaluation. Cindy brought Dodds to his Portsmouth house where he told her "I'm going to bring you upstairs and rape you." She managed to escape to her car when Dodds then entered the car. The couple eventually made it to Portsmouth Regional Hospital where she told police she had been kidnapped by Dodds.

Cindy Dodds filed for divorce on June 20, but the file has been kept confidential by a marriage court.
