MANCHESTER- Campaigning for his wife, Billy Shaheen told a crowd of Democrats that they must work "every day" until the November election.

Shaheen's appearance were the first public comments he has made since he resigned as co-chairman of U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton's New Hampshire campaign after he made controversial remarks about U.S. Sen. Barack Obama.

"Everyone wants to know where I've been, well it doesn't matter," Shaheen told the group of 100 Democrats.

Shaheen was speaking at the office opening for the New Hampshire Democratic Party. The office will hold the House and Senate caucus campaigns, the Manchester Democratic Party and U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter's office.

"I have one word for you today and that word is every day. Are you going to work every day from this day to that day until we win," Shaheen said. "When this is all set and done you gotta be able to say to yourself, I've done everything that could've been done. If you can't say that then you're cheating this country because this country needs you more than ever, more than serving in the military, more than doing anything else you can do for this country is right now, this time, every day you gotta get out there and work."

Also appearing at the office opening were state Sens. Lou D'Allesandro (D-Manchester), Sylvia Larsen (D-Concord), Betsi DeVries (D-Manchester), Executive Councilor John Shea (D-Nelson), Executive Council candidate Bob Bruce (D-Manchester) and state senate candidate Bob Backus (D-Manchester), House Speaker Terie Norelli (D-Portsmouth) and U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester).

"The Democrats hold the agenda for the American people and the American people know that," Shea-Porter said. "You have to work like your country depends on you because it does. Everything depends on the efforts you make now."
