Update: Bosse alleges Horn manager of ‘sleazy tactics;’ Chesley denies charge

CONCORD -- 2nd Congressional District candidate Grant Bosse (R-Hillsboro) says one of his rivals campaign managers "threatened" to use Bosse's family history against him because he filed a Federal Election Commission complaint against the opposing campaign.

At a press conference, Bosse said David Chesley, campaign manager for Jennifer Horn (R-Nashua), called him last night and told Bosse he would encourage reporters to look at Bosse's FEC report. Chesley confirmed the call but denied alluding to Bosse's father.

"At precisely 10 p.m., David Chesley, campaign manager for the Horn for Congress campaign, called my cell phone, and threatened to use my family against me," Bosse said. "Specifically, he alluded to my father's past legal problems, and said that ‘every reporter in the state would be looking through FEC reports' to see who had made a contribution to my campaign."

According to Bosse, Leigh Bosse, has had legal problems over the past couple of years. In 2001 he was convicted of sexual assault after he touched a woman's breast and in 2006 he was convicted of improperly signing the name of a real-estate client's name on a document.

Chesley called Bosse a "chronic liar" and said Bosse should apologize.

"I called Grant last night and asked him to apologize to Jennifer Horn for spreading baseless lies and attacking her character and told him that he didn't want to get into a battle over FEC reports," Chesley told PolitickerNH.com. "Grant Bosse is a chronic liar. Grant Bosse now needs to not only to apologize to Jennifer Horn he needs to apologize to me."

Bosse finished his statement by asking if Horn approved Chesley's "tactics."

"Did Jennifer Horn approve her campaign manager's tactics? If she did, she needs to explain herself. If she didn't, does she condone such sleazy tactics? If not, will she continue to employ a campaign manager who engages in such tactics? I don't know, but I think we all deserve to know."

UPDATE: Chesley has e-mailed Republican activists asking them to call Bosse and tell Bosse "to apologize to Jennifer and to stop running a negative campaign based on lies." The e-mail includes Bosse's cell phone number and e-mail address. At the bottom is a "fact check" on Bosse's FEC complaint.

“Grant has a problem with the truth and needs to start showing the dignity of the office he seeks,” Chesley wrote in the e-mail. “Either way Grant Bosse is unqualified to serve in Congress."

Responding to Chesley's claim that he is a "liar," Bosse called the Horn campaign "out of control."

"Every criticism of the Horn campaign I've ever made has been
independently verified, and I stand by them," Bosse said in an e-mail to PolitickerNH.com. "The Horn campaign is out of control. It still can't account for its own campaign expenditures, and now her staff is making late night calls to try to embarrass her rivals families. This has to stop."
