MANCHESTER-U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards (D-Texas) paid a visit to the state with the first-in-the-nation primary.
Edwards, mentioned earlier this month as a possible vice-presidential nominee, came to New Hampshire to campaign for freshman U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester).
"I came here today for one reason: I care deeply about the world my 12 year-old and 11 year-old sons will grow up in," Edwards said at Manchester's American Legion hall.
Edwards visited the state to help launch the "Veterans and Military Families for Carol Shea-Porter" coalitions group.
"She has a rare trait in Washington, she is humble," Edwards said of Shea-Porter.
Earlier in the day Edwards and Shea-Porter visited the Manchester VA hospital. Edwards is chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction.
During the veterans event, Edwards praised the work Shea-Porter has done for the hospital.
"We learned today that your hospital has 125 new employees because of the legislation Carol has helped pass."
Shea-Porter said it was important for Edwards to visit the hospital because "he's met the veterans and he's going to take that back to Washington."
