Obama appeals for help from N.H. homeowners

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's (D-Ill.) presidential campaign is requesting that New Hampshire families send in pictures of their homes and describing how many houses they own in an attempt to take advantage of a misstep by Obama's opponent.

The effort comes in response to Wednesday's statement by U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) that he does not know how many houses he owns. "I think - I'll have my staff get to you," McCain told a reporter from Politico during an interview."It's condominiums where - I'll have them get to you." The quote served as fuel for the Obama campaign, which released a TV ad calling the Republican out on the statement.

It also set local Democrats into attack mode, drawing comparisons between McCain's substantial holdings and the struggles of working class Granite State homeowners.

"No wonder John McCain keeps voting against funding the home heating assistance program-- if he doesn't even know how many houses he has, how can he relate to New Hampshire families struggling to heat theirs?" said Sandra Abrevaya, Obama's New Hampshire communications director, in a press release.
