DENVER-A national campaign finance reform group is helping to promote public financing in the Granite State.

Rob Werner, national field director for Americans for Campaign Reform, told PolitickerNH.com that the group will be helping the campaign in New Hampshire.

"Our focus is on the federal level, but because we are based in New Hampshire, we've been lending a helping hand," Werner said.

A bi-partisan commission has been formed to study the feasibility of establishing a public finance system in New Hampshire. The commission has a public hearing set for Sept. 2 and will form report back to legislature in December.

Werner said that 2009 will be a critical year for the finance system.

"2009 could well represent a turning point," Werner said at the New Hampshire delegation hotel at the Democratic National Convention. "Based on the election outcome we will have a president, and maybe a Congress, that supports reforming the system."

Werner added depending on the election results the effort is supporting by a number of U.S. Senate candidates who might be elected in November.

"The Congress that comes in 2009 will have a lot of political support for the cause," he said.
