Recounts show no change

After two days of recounts, no new winners have been declared from last week's state primary.

The Secretary of State's office has conducted recounts for the Republican state representative races in Rockingham County Districts 1 and 4. Recounts have also been conducted for the Republican Carroll County Sheriff primary and the Democratic Merrimack County Sheriff  race.

In the Merrimack County Sheriff race, Jack Hannigan staged a write-in campaign to gain the Democratic nomination. However he lost by 17 votes to current Sheriff Scott Hilliard, a Republican who also gained the Republican Party's nomination. Hannigan, a deputy sheriff, was suspended from his job because his write-in campaign violated office policy that deputies are not allowed to take part in political activities. In the race, "others" gained 201 votes.

In Rockingham County District 1, Joe Duarte, John Reagan, Brian Stucker, Jim Sullivan and Frank Case all won the primary. While in Rockingham County District 4, David Bates, Ronald Belanger, D.J. Bettencourt, Margaret Crisler, Anthony DiFruscia, Bob Elliott, Marilinda Garcia, Mary Griffin, Russell Ingram, Walter Kolodziej, Charles McMahon, Mark Preston, Anne Priestley are moving onto the general election.

Christopher Conley was able to defeat Francis Lord by 17 votes in the Republican primary for Carroll County Sheriff. Domenic Richardi came in third with 1,371 votes. Conley will be running unopposed during the general election.

On Friday, the Secretary of State will conduct recounts for the Republican primary for the Strafford County Attorney along with a recount to determine who will be the Republican delegate in Nashua's Ward 3 to the state convention.
