Hodes, Horn square-off in final debate

The candidates for the 2nd Congressional District seat participated in their final debate, which they used to spell out their differences on economic issues.

U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-Concord), who is running for a second term against Jennifer Horn (R-Nashua), was criticized by Horn for not doing enough to deal with the economic crisis and said his accepting campaign donation from financial institutions has affected his voting record.

"Mr. Hodes sits on the financial services committee has taken hundreds-of-thousands of dollars from the financial service industry and did nothing," Horn said at a WMUR/Union Leader television debate.

"If I was in the pocket of the financial service industry I wouldn't have voted twice against financial bailout," Hodes said. "If I was in the pocket of the financial service industry, I wouldn't have supported tough new credit card reform to end abusive practices and I certainly wouldn't have voted for tough new regulations on Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac."

Hodes added, "I'm in the pockets and I voted for consumers and taxpayers."

Horn spent most of the debate responding to comments made by Hodes and during a question on commuter rail, Horn said, "Why is it even when we agree on something you turn it into a negative."
