UNH tracking poll shows races narrow

The daily UNH/WMUR tracking poll shows the races in New Hampshire narrowing, but still outside the reach of Republicans.

In the presidential contest John McCain has narrowed Barack Obama's lead to 11 points. McCain made up ground all week among Republicans. The poll finds that 88 percent of Republicans now support McCain, up from 74 percent earlier this week. That said, Obama has 53 percent of independents supporting his campaign.

The poll also shows that former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury) has a 5 point lead over U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley). The race is 47 percent to 42 percent with 9 percent undecided. The poll suggests that a Sununu win is within possibility.

In the congressional races in the U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester) has an eight point lead over former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro), 48 percent to 40 percent with 11 percent undecided in the 1st Congressional District. In the 2nd Congressional District U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-Concord) is beating Jennifer Horn (R-Nashua) 50 percent to 32 percent with 18 percent undecided.
