Granite State Republicans form ‘Draft Sununu’ for RNC chair effort

A group of New Hampshire Republicans is generating momentum for U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley) to make a run for Republican National Committee Chairman.

The movement, titled "Draft Sununu," comes days after Sununu lost his re-election campaign to former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury).

The effort includes a website called "Draft Sununu," as well as a Facebook group that was established by Republican consultant Jim Merrill.

The "Draft Sununu for RNC" Facebook group currently includes 38 members and states as its mission, "A group organized to promote the candidacy of Senator John E. Sununu as the next Chairman of the Republican National Committee."

"John Sununu remains a fast rising star in the national Republican Party.  He is an articulate and principled conservative who has been a consistent reformer in Washington, while remaining true to his New Hampshire values," Merrill wrote in an email to PolitickerNH.com.  "His national profile and well known leadership and organizational skills would make him a tremendous Chairman of the Republican National Committee.  I am pleased to lend my support to the ongoing effort encouraging him to run."
