Burling: Dems must engage public to expand majority

In order to build upon the success of their electoral victories, New Hampshire Democratic National Committeeman Peter Burling told PolitickerNH.com that the Democrats should try and find a way to get every American involved in rebuilding the country.

"Howard Dean did us all a tremendous favor focusing on the technical aspect of the 50 state strategy and it worked, it worked out really well. That coupled with Obama's use of the internet, and the extent to which he excited every type of American through the internet, is a new language in politics," Burling said in an interview.

He later said, "The biggest challenge for the Democratic Party is to offer an opportunity for every American who wants to help in the recovery of America."

Burling said that the Democrats must deliver on their campaign promises if they want to maintain the confidence of the American people.

"The Democrats can in the next two years do what we said we were going to do and engage the American people in finding solutions," Burling added.

Burling said the Democrats immediately should offer an economic stimulus package that focuses on rebuilding the country's infrastructure, tax cuts for middle-class families and an energy bill that invests in renewable energy resources.

Burling also said the Democrats should look for a chairman that would work with President-elect Obama to promote his agenda. Current DNC Chairman Howard Dean has announced that he will not run for a second term as chairman.
