Lynch dodges Senate question, says Blago should resign

MANCHESTER--Gov. John Lynch (D-Hopkinton) dodged a question about whether or not he would challenge U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg (R-Rye) in 2010.

Coming off a historic win in November, Lynch's name is often mentioned as a possible candidate against Gregg, who said the day after the election that he planned on running for another term.

"I haven't even been sworn-in for my third term," Lynch told reporters. "We need to work together to pass a budget and deal with the current economic challenges the state is facing."

Lynch made the comments after speaking at a bridge dedication in the Queen City. The Manchester Board of Alderman voted to name the Granite State Bridge after Gregg.

Earlier this week, New Hampshire Democrats announced that that they had surpassed Republicans in the number of registered voters. When Lynch was asked if New Hampshire should now be considered a "blue state," he called for political unity.

"It's time to put partisan politics aside and come together to work on challenges facing the state," he said.

Lynch also said that Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D-Ill.) should resign if the claims made by the U.S. Attorney are true, but added that the facts of the case should be fully presented before any decisions are made.

"I think they need to lay out the facts of the case," Lynch said.

When asked directly if Blagojevich should resign Lynch said, "If in fact the facts are what they say I think he should resign."

Blagojevich is accused by the U.S. Attorney's office of attempting to sell President-elect Barack Obama's U.S. Senate seat.
