Lynch proposes ‘green jobs initiative’ in inaugural address

CONCORD--Gov. John Lynch (D-Hopkinton) used his inaugural speech to propose a new initiative that he says will create jobs and grow New Hampshire's economy.

Lynch said that the state should develop a Green Jobs Initiative that would use money from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative to fund a variety of programs.

Lynch said he would like to expand the home weatherization program, upgrade state buildings to make them more energy efficient, establish a low-interest loan program for businesses to also become energy efficient and provide training to Granite Staters who might be interested in "green jobs."

"This Green Jobs Initiative would create jobs for our people now, and make New Hampshire's economy stronger for the future," Lynch said. "Let's help New Hampshire's workers and businesses keep their competitive edge, and let's keep good paying jobs right here in New Hampshire."

Lynch acknowledged the budget problems facing the state but did not lay-out any specific cuts he would like to make.

"As we develop the next budget, we will have to examine every area of spending, look at every program and say ‘no' more often than we would like," Lynch said.

Lynch also used the speech to extend a hand across the political aisle and pledge bipartisanship with Republican legislators.

"Let us not point fingers, assess blame or worry about who gets the credit. Let us continue to put partisan politics to one side and focus on solving problems together," Lynch said.
