Larsen warns of tough budget choices

CONCORD -- Echoing Gov. John Lynch's (D-Hopkinton) call for fiscal restraint, state Sen. Sylvia Larsen (D-Concord) said that the legislature faces a critical session and that almost no state programs would be expanded.

"We know we won't adequately fund programs we should," the Senate president told reporters after Lynch's inaugural address. "It's unlikely we're going to grow any programs."

During his inaugural address Lynch stressed the need for bipartisanship, and Larsen said that Lynch has already followed-up on that call by hosting meetings with leaders from both side of the aisle.

"I hope people work together, and I think that's what people expect," Larsen said. "People are tired of the bickering."
