Lynch to Legislature: You Figure It Out

CONCORD -- Gov. John Lynch, after being sworn into his position for the third time today, spoke in his inaugural address about large budget deficits and the tough economic picture ahead. And while he holds the most political clout than any New Hampshire governor of a generation, he basically went did the equivalent of a shrug of the shoulders and a "have a nice time figuring it out, just don't spend too much" to the Democratic majority legislature looking for a direction and some cover.

New Hampshire is still purple

The major question entering this election year was whether or not New Hampshire's confusing political identity would become clear tonight.

At this point it looks as though a Democrat was the state's selection for president, for the U.S. Senate, and for both Congressional seats. A Democratic governor is on the way to possibly beating his own record for state's largest margin of victory. Along with him is the potential that for the first time ever New Hampshire Democrats will have majorities in the both the state house and state senate and the corner office.

Cullen will 'mourn for years' if Sununu loses

New Hampshire Republican Party Chairman Fergus Cullen said he will "mourn for years" if U.S. Sen. John E. Sununu isn't re-elected today.

"It is not just because he is a Republican, but personally it will hurt because believe deep down he is the right senator for the state," said Cullen. "In fact, it will be a loss for the nation if he isn't back in the Senate."

Cullen said the party's voter ID and get out the vote efforts are more intense this year than they were in 2004 when President Bush had more campaign staff.
