NH Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley

Using what could be best described as an "ugly" term for someone in the chairman's position in one of the mainstream political parties here in New Hampshire, Democrat leader Ray Buckley shows signs of becoming completely unhinged in the face of the groundswell of anti-socialized health care sentiment.

In what is becoming to be an apparent pattern, Chairman Buckley has once again resorted to calling ordinary people concerned for their state's and country's future names. Recalling that back in April, following a number of Tax-Day Tea Parties, he referred to attendees-- which included people of all ages and stripes-- as an "unhinged mob," we now find out that we are "thugs.

Here's a video aired on CNN yesterday about the most conservative Democrat in Congress - my Congressman, Walt Minnick. The town featured in the piece, St. Maries, is about an hour and a half south of my house. (Although the reporter, John King, refers to the region as west Idaho, around here we call it north Idaho.)

This week we have the opportunity to make history by confirming the first Hispanic and only the third woman to the United States Supreme Court. I come to the floor today to speak in support of Sonia Sotomayor's nomination, however, not because of the historic nature of that nomination, but because she is more than qualified to sit on the Supreme Court and I am perplexed by why the vote on her nomination will not be unanimous.

As a side note, I am going to be especially interested to compare the number of Dems who voted no on Souter compared to the total of today's GOPers who vote no on Sotomayor.

I cop to the fact that I'm passionate about grassroots politics. I'm excited by the idea that when people of good will come together and work hard and smart, we can change the course of history. I know this sounds sick, but I often fantasize about how much progress we could make in America if the Democratic party embraced an inclusive, activist culture, and invested in the infrastructure to support it.

We got a taste of what that would look and feel like during the '08 election, when the NH coordinated campaign mobilized thousands of in-state volunteers to deliver strong Democratic victories up and down the ticket.

Just got an e-mail from Mark Fernald announcing he has decided to withdraw from the Democratic primary field for US Rep from CD-02.
I am writing to let you know that I am withdrawing from the race for Congress in the 2nd NH District. I did not arrive at this decision easily. I felt that the time was right for my message of change based on our shared values: community, equality, fairness, and democracy. But as I worked to build my campaign, I came to realize this is not the right time for a major campaign for me or my family. My son is entering college in the fall, and my daughter will be a junior in high school.

A VERY important election is being held this Tuesday, June 2nd -- that's like "tomorrow" -- in Lebanon. It's for a seat in the New Hampshire State Legislature.

We lost House Bill 73 by one vote two weeks ago. This could be THE vote that will get it passed on Wednesday if our Democratic candidate wins and he can be sworn in on time!

Besides, he's a mighty good candidate.

His name is Andy White, and he's the Democratic candidate running against Republican Randy Wagoner.

Andy White has said he would have voted for House Bill 436, which has already passed the House and Senate and will be sent to Governor John Lynch shortly.
