Catching up on a few things

First, I hope to have the last entry in my Psychedelic Furs tribute done soon. I'm still piecing together memories and data from the live shows. After that, I'll put together the "ultimate" set list for readers to consider before next Monday.

Here are some links that I have been meaning to post for a few weeks now. Enjoy!

The USA Today had this pretty powerful piece the other day about debt: ["Leap in U.S. debt hits taxpayers with 12% more red ink"]. This is probably the most shocking thing I have seen in a very long time. Not only are we on the hook for the federal government's largess, but look at the personal debt.

Buckley: 'Jeb Bradley is not fooling anyone' in SD-3 race

New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley has released on a statement on the news that former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-NH) will run in the special election for senate District 3.

Former New Hampshire Republican Chairman Fergus Cullen has decided that he will not run for the seat and former state Sen. Joe Kenney (R-Wakefield) announced that he is being deployed to Afghanistan next week.

Buckley’s release:

"Jeb Bradley is not fooling anyone.

Then And Now

It's a funny thing how drastically different a story can be covered.

Bush was a disaster and deserved a lot of the bad press he received.  Back in 2004 I stated on a number of occasions that he did not deserve to be re-elected and had the Democrats nominated someone halfway decent he would have been soundly defeated.

Now we have Obama, a man who won because of personality and hype, who within his first few days in office has already proven himself a far greater disaster then Bush had ever hoped to be spending us so far into debt that I doubt this country will ever be able to recover in my lifetime.

"Energy, Health Care, and Education"

Welcome to the return of values-based priorities. Still such a relief to see an intelligent adult in charge, and one, moreover, that isn't afraid to step outside of a talking points bubble to confront Congress directly.

Here's a Wordle of the President's speech:

Full text below the fold.
Madame Speaker, Mr. Vice President, Members of Congress, and the First Lady of the United States:

I've come here tonight not only to address the distinguished men and women in this great chamber, but to speak frankly and directly to the men and women who sent us here.

I know that for many Americans watching right now, the state of our economy is a concern that rises above all others.
