BREAKING NEWS: NH Dem Chairman calls the people "thugs"

NH Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley

Using what could be best described as an "ugly" term for someone in the chairman's position in one of the mainstream political parties here in New Hampshire, Democrat leader Ray Buckley shows signs of becoming completely unhinged in the face of the groundswell of anti-socialized health care sentiment.

In what is becoming to be an apparent pattern, Chairman Buckley has once again resorted to calling ordinary people concerned for their state's and country's future names. Recalling that back in April, following a number of Tax-Day Tea Parties, he referred to attendees-- which included people of all ages and stripes-- as an "unhinged mob," we now find out that we are "thugs.

Health Care for All: You Can Get It if You Really Want It...

But like the song says, you must try.

I cop to the fact that I'm passionate about grassroots politics. I'm excited by the idea that when people of good will come together and work hard and smart, we can change the course of history. I know this sounds sick, but I often fantasize about how much progress we could make in America if the Democratic party embraced an inclusive, activist culture, and invested in the infrastructure to support it.

We got a taste of what that would look and feel like during the '08 election, when the NH coordinated campaign mobilized thousands of in-state volunteers to deliver strong Democratic victories up and down the ticket.

Can you hear me now?

Shhhh.... Can you hear it? If you listen hard enough you can hear the sound of the most open and participatory communication medium yet invented crashing headlong into one of the smallest Legislative bodies in the world.

Yesterday we were live blogging proceedings from the NH Senate. Go back and read that again to let it sink in.

While the topic at hand (HB436) was the "primary" watershed event, I think another tipping point was reached yesterday as well: From this point forward elected officials at the state level will need to be a part of the online conversation if they are to be successful in promoting themselves and their agenda.

Palin polling in NH?

A blogger on Blue Hampshire is reporting that a friend received a robosurvey about Gov. Sarah Palin.

I haven’t heard anyone else receiving the same phone call but read the entire diary yourself at: Sarah Palin for President: It begins…with robopolling?

Liberals are unhappy that Gov. Rick Perry has made the correct, long term, decision

Many Liberals are fans of centralized power - at least politicians that I can readily identify as Liberals seem to pontificate that only Government can solve the problem.  Often, that means we, the people, have to give something up of our money, our freedom, our choices.  And when we complain, or a politician stands up against the Libs on a principled stand, let the excoriation begin!

Such is what Dean Barker has done over at Blue Hampshire:

Unconscionable

He's really doing it (h/t TPM):

Gov. Rick Perry will announce today that he is blocking the state from accepting $550 million for expanded unemployment benefits as part of the federal stimulus package

I didn't think it was possible for the other side to act in ways that one could argue are actually worse than George W.

Bow power plant takes center-stage

Today the New Hampshire State Senate heard testimony on a bill that would require PSNH to study the cost of installing a scrubber at the Merrimack State Power Plant.

PSNH is attempting to build a scrubber that would reduce the mercury levels it emits into the atmosphere, but critics say the scrubber is too expensive and wants PSNH to look into the possibility of using renewable energy sources.

The effort has become so political that well-known activist Gary Hirshberg posted an entry on the website Blue Hampshire and New Hampshire Republican Chairman John H. Sununu released a statement that criticizes the bill.

Here is the Hirshberg column:

Tax codes - paying for government or a Big Stick?

This Administration is using the tax code far beyond any other one that I can remember.  Which brings up one of the biggest questions and differences between Conservatives and Liberals:

As an incidental item, it spotlights just how foolish and unfair social engineering by tax policy always is. For everything somebody judges “good” and encourages with tax code manipulation, there is behavior judged “bad” (success and “too much” wealth) to be punished, and havoc ensues.

What is the purpose of taxation? Is it to finance necessary government services, or to empower certain individuals-on-high to reward or punish us according to their moral and philosophical views? This question should have been asked, publicly debated and settled quite some time ago.

NH-02 Straw Poll

With the cold winds of hopefully the final(?) winter storm swirling around us, it's easy to forget how hot things will become with the NH-02 Race.

Paul Hodes has announced his intention to run for AWOL Gregg, "The Pork Profiteer's", Senate seat leaving the the NH-02 seat up for grabs.

This seat is ripe for a great Democratic Primary. In recent Presidential Primaries NH-02 has shown a slight preference for candidates such as Howard Dean and Barack Obama. Tapping in to that style of leadership and running that sort of a campaign may give newcomers a real shot. NH-02 is a couple of points in the D's favor out of the gate, so no need to be a centrist for centrism's sake.

Politicker: Worst Website in the World?

A sad denouement to a site that I once linked to and cheerled at every turn:

Dear Sir or Madam,

I've been receiving a number of complaints from my readers about politickernh.com, which, despite its defunct status, is putting every blog post we have on our front page as its "News Feed".

We are a blog, not a news outlet, and our material is posted on your site in full without any context or additional writing by Politicker's reporters.  Nor were we ever approached about this happening.

I ask that you please not continue to use us as a "news feed" for your site.

$100,000

Dude, if I had a hundred grand to spend on Blue Hampshire, this place would be Teh Awesome. Stimulus I could believe in!

Seriously, though, this doesn't pass the sniff test, as evidenced by how it magically made all the regular right-wing old and new media within hours of DiStaso's column. It's about as organic and grassrootsy a website as the cream filling in a Twinkie.

And is Fred Tausch the same guy as this Mike Gravel-supporting Fred Tausch (or this one?), pushing a blog that's been closed to the public, but whose YouTube channel was created by another wealthy Nashua man?  What's going on here?
