Coalition forms for ‘limited gaming’ at Rock

CONCORD--A coalition titled "Fix it Now" has formed to bring "limited gaming" to Rockingham Park.

The group said that they want to bring video slot machines to the Salem track.

D’Allesandro says ‘stars aligned’ for expanded gaming

State Sen. Lou D'Allesandro (D-Manchester) said that he thinks this legislative session is the best opportunity to pass bills that would expand gambling in New Hampshire.

"If there is any chance that we can get expanded gaming in the state it's this year," D'Allesandro told PolitickerNH.com. "The stars have aligned to allow the legislature to look at ways to bring in new revenues to the state."

D'Allesandro made the comments yesterday after being awarded the Friend of Business Award by the Business and Industry Association.

Lynch says state not relying upon federal govt. for budget help

Gov. John Lynch (D-Hopkinton) spoke to reporters after attending a meeting with President-elect Obama and said that he is not depending on money from the federal government to help New Hampshire close its current budget deficit.

"I'm certainly not counting on money from the federal government to deal with our remaining $75 million shortfall, so I'm not counting on that," Lynch said on a conference call with reporters.

Knytych running on state spending

LACONIA- State Sen. Candidate Greg Knytych (R-Laconia) thinks the current budget deficit is his opponent's biggest weakness.

Knytych hopes to defeat freshman state Sen. Kathleen Sgambati (D-Tilton) on a message of budget restraint in the race for the district four state senate seat.

 "One of the biggest ones is the spending spree that the state went on; she was in full support of that," Knytych said when asked what is Sgambati's most vulnerable position.

The Laconia city councilor also said that voters are upset over parental notification law.

Poll shows residents unaware of budget problems; plurality favors legalized gambling

A poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire shows residents are largely unaware of the current budget problems facing the state.

According to the Granite State Poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, 17% said they have heard a lot about the state budget, 59% say they have heard a little and 23% said they have heard nothing at all.
