Catching up on a few things

First, I hope to have the last entry in my Psychedelic Furs tribute done soon. I'm still piecing together memories and data from the live shows. After that, I'll put together the "ultimate" set list for readers to consider before next Monday.

Here are some links that I have been meaning to post for a few weeks now. Enjoy!

The USA Today had this pretty powerful piece the other day about debt: ["Leap in U.S. debt hits taxpayers with 12% more red ink"]. This is probably the most shocking thing I have seen in a very long time. Not only are we on the hook for the federal government's largess, but look at the personal debt.

So, you REALLY think you want Universal Healthcare?

Here is my rebuttal to two Letters to the Editor (here and here, also after the jump) demanding that the State of NH provide more money for Medicare and healthcare:

To The Editor:

One thing is true – two Letters demonstrate what happens when one becomes too dependent on Big Government (e.g., Brenda Baer's of 5/14: cuts in Medicare reimbursements to hospitals and medical professionals and John Swartz's of 5/13: rent-seeking as his company isn't getting what he believes to be sufficient monies). The Danger of Global Communication

Since Crow Dickinson’s ill advised- remarks about Starting Point (remarks he apologized for) he’s become the hero of the men’s movement!

Angry, woman-hating men in the US and Canada have latched on to Crow Dickinson as a symbol. They think poor ole Crow is being oppressed by women. Mean, feminist women who don’t want to talk about how mean they are to men they’re divorcing, and denying parental rights to. Mean woman who don’t understand or care about how often heterosexual men are abused. They don’t care at all about gay men who are abused. I can’t decide if they’re homophobes, or if they ignore gay men because they don’t have female partners to hate on.

Obama - refusing revenues and refusing to create jobs

Yesterday:

WASHINGTON — The Interior Department on Wednesday blocked a Bush administration plan to open parts of the Mountain West for oil-shale development, announcing that it would first study the water, power and land-use issues that complicate one of the nation's most abundant but controversial untapped sources of power.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar coupled the decision to cancel some shale development leases and launch a second round of leases limited to research purposes with a rebuke of what he called former President George W. Bush's "headlong rush" to begin development.

"Those who have fantasized that oil shale is a panacea for America's energy needs have been living in a fantasy land," he said.
