Maybe now we can stop taking things out of bills they had no intention of voting for in the first place?

Not even in more moderate Republican New England could they get a single GOP vote for the stimulus.

Oh, wait. I forgot.  There are no New England House Republicans anymore. And with actions like this, is there any wonder, really?

At least we know now that it's the official Republican party position to do nothing in the face of the worst economy since the Great Depression.  That will make the voting easier in 2010 and 2012.

Update: Scratch that - House Republicans aren't completely a do-nothing outfit.

Lynch proposes ‘green jobs initiative’ in inaugural address

CONCORD--Gov. John Lynch (D-Hopkinton) used his inaugural speech to propose a new initiative that he says will create jobs and grow New Hampshire's economy.

Lynch said that the state should develop a Green Jobs Initiative that would use money from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative to fund a variety of programs.

Shea-Porter says stimulus bill should include accountability measures

U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester) told PolitickerNH.com that a potential stimulus bill should include a way to track the money that will be spent.

"We're still talking about what will actually be in that bill, but my main emphasis is obviously it needs to stimulate the economy," Shea-Porter said. "We need to have tough accountability for the dollars because this is a tremendous expenditure, and I will absolutely insist on the accountability part of it.

Sununu appointed to oversight panel

Outgoing U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley) was appointed Wednesday to the oversight panel in charge of overseeing the financial bailout.

Senate Republican Leader U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) appointed Sununu after fellow New Hampshire U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg (R-Rye) resigned. The panel is charged specifically with keeping track of money from the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP).

Bradley attributes defeat to national tide

Former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) is blaming a national Democratic tide for his defeat to U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester).

It was Bradley's second lost to Shea-Porter. In 2006, Shea-Porter pulled off a close upset against Bradley and this time around she beat him by over 20,000 votes.

"It was a nationwide tide against Republicans," Bradley said. "We were blamed for what happened with the economy and obviously other things and people felt the Democrats could bring the kind of change they wanted."

McLeod: North Country ready for a change

State Rep. Martha McLeod (D-Franconia) said that voters in the North Country are ready to change who represents them in the state senate.

McLeod is running against current state Sen. John Gallus (R-Berlin) in Senate District 1, which covers the northern part of the state.

"I think I'm going to win and I hear over and over from voters that they want to see a change," McLeod said in an interview with PolitickerNH.com. "They've had enough of politics that hasn't worked for them and they want a new direction for the North Country."

Romney stumps for N.H. GOP candidates

MANCHESTER-- Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney campaigned at a local business for various Republican candidates.

The Republican presidential primary runner-up talked to workers at Oven Poppers about the importance of electing Doug Kruse (R-Manchester) to the state senate and former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) to the U.S. House.

Hodes, Horn square-off in final debate

The candidates for the 2nd Congressional District seat participated in their final debate, which they used to spell out their differences on economic issues.

U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-Concord), who is running for a second term against Jennifer Horn (R-Nashua), was criticized by Horn for not doing enough to deal with the economic crisis and said his accepting campaign donation from financial institutions has affected his voting record.

‘Plumber Joe’ makes debut in 1st CD debate

MANCHESTER--The voter who took center stage in last night's presidential debate was referenced again in a debate between former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) and current U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester).

Bradley brought up "Joe the plumber" in an answer on Social Security. During the final presidential debate, both John McCain and Barack Obama used "Joe the plumber" as a reference to discuss their plans for middle-class voters.

Biden hoping for Red Sox-Phillies series

MANCHESTER--In the heart of Red Sox Nation Democratic vice-presidential nominee Joe Biden admitted that he is a fan of the Philadelphia Phillies.

"I know you guys have concerns and that's what the matter with Josh Beckett's arm," Biden joked.

Biden added, "I'm hoping for a Red Sox-Phillies World Series."

The Delaware Senator emphasized New Hampshire's economic statistics in his stump speech.
