Legislature elects state treasurer

CONCORD--In a joint session, the New Hampshire legislature elected Catherine Provencher for another term as state treasurer.

"I am deeply humbled and honored by your continued confidence in my abilities," Provencher said in a short speech before the legislature.

This will be Provencher's second term as treasurer.

State Rep. Anne-Marie Irwin (D-Peterborough) nominated Provencher and the nomination was seconded by state Sen. Harold Janeway (D-Webster).

Sanborn-Janeway debate in SD-7

WEARE--State Sen. Harold Janeway (D-Webster) and Andy Sanborn (R-Henniker) participated in their only debate on Weare public television.

In the debate the projected budget deficit and the tax pledge took center stage.

Sanborn said that he does not favor an income or sales tax, while Janeway said that he has not taken the "no tax" pledge because he wants an "open and honest" debate about the budget.

When asked if by refusing to sign the pledge Janeway favors an income tax, Janeway said, "It does not mean I favor an income tax."

Sanborn, Elliott points fingers at one another

CONCORD-- In a state senate primary that has been marked by investigations, rumors and reports of illegal campaign activity, both candidates say they are ready to move onto the general election.

Andy Sanborn (R-Henniker) and Larry Elliott (R-Antrim) are running against one another in the Republican primary in state district 7. The winner will face freshman state Sen. Harold Janeway (D-Webster) on Election Day.

Sanborn beating Elliott in fundraising

In the Republican primary in Senate District 7, Andy Sanborn (R-Loudon) raised five times more money than his primary opponent Larry Elliott (R-Antrim).

Over the past three months Sanborn raised $21,550 and ended the period with a surplus of $9,081 while Elliott raised $4,225 and closed the period with $1,261 cash on hand.

Sanborn is scheduled to hold a fundraiser today at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway race track.

For Janeway challengers, a fiscal focus in a media blackhole

Concord business owner Andy Sanborn (R-Loudon) and former state rep. Larry Elliott (R-Antrim), who are both running for the opportunity to challenge freshman state Sen. Harold Janeway (D-Webster), agree on the message, but the question for their primary is who can get that message out.

Both Republican Seante District 7 candidates said they are running on a message of lower government spending.

State Senate candidate forms website

State Senate candidate Larry Elliott (R-Antrim) has launched a campaign website.

Elliott is competing in the Senate district seven Republican primary against Andy Sanborn. The winner will attempt to defeat state Sen. Harold Janeway (D-Webster).
