Catching up on a few things

First, I hope to have the last entry in my Psychedelic Furs tribute done soon. I'm still piecing together memories and data from the live shows. After that, I'll put together the "ultimate" set list for readers to consider before next Monday.

Here are some links that I have been meaning to post for a few weeks now. Enjoy!

The USA Today had this pretty powerful piece the other day about debt: ["Leap in U.S. debt hits taxpayers with 12% more red ink"]. This is probably the most shocking thing I have seen in a very long time. Not only are we on the hook for the federal government's largess, but look at the personal debt.

Air Diva - so, is this "spare no expense, Pelosi?"

The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works -- whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified."

-President Barack Obama, 1/20/09

So, is this working yet? Or is this yet another sign that when government gets too big, it can be abused?  When big government effectively isolates those that govern from those that pay for it, there is no way for the individual taxpayer to hold the highest accountable?

Michelle nails the Diva:

And, of course, it's the double-barreled hypocrisy. There's the eco-hypocrisy of the Democratic leader who wags her finger at the rest of us for our too-big carbon footprints, and crusades for massive taxes and regulation to reduce global warming.

Hallelujah? The Heathen Vermonters Beat Us

We are no longer the least religious state in the union, at least in terms of percentage change since 1990 (h/t kos).

Those heathen Vermonters beat us by a single percentage point.

Snark aside, if you click the link and take a look at who shares company with us, it looks like New England leads the way in non-religiosity.

The dilemma Iowa champion Mike Huckabee faced in the '08 First-in-the-Nation Primary isn't going away anytime soon.
