Horn 'offended' by Hodes Iraq comment

MANCHESTER--The second debate between Jennifer Horn (R-Nashua) and U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-Concord) was marked by a fierce exchange over the war in Iraq.

Horn said she was "offended" when Hodes said that the increase in troop levels has helped secure Iraq "by some extent."

"To some extent more boots on the ground probably helped," Hodes said. Hodes also credited the sectioning of Baghdad into ethic neighborhoods as a reason for the decrease of violence in Iraq.

Sununu attempts to tie Shaheen to Bush

In a new campaign ad U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley) seeks to tie his opponent to President Bush.

The ad, titled "Remember," uses quotes from former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury) in which she said she supported the war in Iraq and the Bush tax cuts.

"From the defining issues of his presidency Jeanne Shaheen spoke out," the announcer says.

Shaheen is then quoted as saying, "I'll stand with President Bush on national security, the war on terrorism and to disarm Saddam Hussein. I supported the Bush tax cut."

Poll finds residents oppose Iraq invasion

A new UNH poll shows that a majority of Granite Staters oppose the 2003 decision to invade Iraq.

The Granite State Poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, reports that 57 percent of residents oppose the Unite States invading Iraq and 37 percent favor support the decision.

The poll also finds that 69 percent disapprove of President Bush's handling of the war and 28 percent favor Bush's handling.

Obama releases economic ad in N.H.

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) has released a new ad in the Granite State focused on economic issues.

Obama's ad is airing in battleground states throughout the country and claims his rival, U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has supported President George Bush "95 percent of the time."

McCain begins airing ‘Troop Funding’ ad

U.S. Sen. John McCain's campaign has begun airing an ad critical of U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's stance on the Iraq war.

The thirty-second ad, entitled "Troop Funding," began airing today on WMUR and is airing in ten other battleground states.

"Barack Obama never held a single Senate hearing on Afghanistan. He hasn't been to Iraq in years," the announcer states. "He voted against funding our troops. Positions that helped him win his nomination. Now Obama is changing to help himself become president."

Bush, Iraq war remain unpopular in NH

President George Bush, and the Iraq war, continues to remain unpopular among Granite State residents.

Only 28 percent of New Hampshire adults approve of the job Bush is doing and 69 percent disapprove, according to a new Granite State Poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center.

Shaheen argues for phased withdrawal from Iraq

GOFFSTOWN- Senatorial candidate Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury) laid out her national security priorities during a speech at Saint Anselm College.

Shaheen argued that American troops are in the middle of a civil war in Iraq and the United States should begin a phased withdrawal from the country.

Shea-Porter discusses Iraq on C-SPAN

This morning, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester) appeared on C-SPAN's Washington Journal program.

Shea-Porter, member of the House Armed Services Committee, was on the show to discuss the current situation in Iraq and the testimony of General David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker.

Shea-Porter said she continues to oppose the war in Iraq.

Sununu cites security improvements in Iraq

U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley) says that situation in Iraq has improved ‘significantly,' but there should be no immediate withdrawal of troops.

"No American should serve a day longer in Iraq than is absolutely necessary, but an immediate withdrawal of all coalition forces would leave behind an unstable and dangerous environment," Sununu said in a statement.
