GOP holds unity breakfast

MANCHESTER--Republican candidates, and their supporters, who were once rivals gathered to unite under the Republican ticket.

All the candidates stressed the importance of working for the Republican presidential ticket and the Republicans down the ballot.

Former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) paid homage to his primary rival, former Health and Human Services Commissioner John Stephen (R-Manchester).

Horn wins family style

NASHUA--Jennifer Horn (R-Nashua) is the Republican nominee in the 2nd Congressional District and will challenge incumbent U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-Concord) in November.  Hodes, who did not have a party primary today, unseated Republican Charlie Bass in 2006.

In a five-way race that has been a big draw among Republicans, Horn competed against Grant Bosse (R-Hillsborough), Bob Clegg (R-Hudson), Jim Steiner (R-Concord) and Alfred L'Eplattenier (R-Rindge).

Libertarian Chester Lapointe of Swanzey also is on the Nov. 4 ballot.

Clegg does last minute campaigning at Ward 2

NASHUA -- State Sen. Bob Clegg, candidate in the Republican primary in the 2nd Congressional District, was doing some last minute campaigning in Ward 2, holding campaign signs Tuesday evening.

Clegg (R-Hudson) had been on the road since 6 a.m. making a final push to voters in his district, he said.

“Campaigning has been great,” Clegg said. “We’ve seem to be very confident.”

He and campaign manager Debrah Vanderbeek said they haven’t heard any negative feedback all day.

Four Republican candidates in the 2nd Congressional District squared off Thursday night in the final debate before the primary agreeing on issues ranging from the war in Iraq to the mortgage crisis.

Republicans debate in 2nd District

SALEM — In one of their last debates before their primary just 11 days away, the four Republican 2nd Congressional District candidates discussed Iraq, the economy, and health care along with the themes of who was the best person to take on the Democrat they all hope to defeat, Paul Hodes.

While they will debate one more time next week, this debate carried major significance since it occurred in Salem, one of the most heavily Republican towns in the state.

New Hampshire political candidates were given the opportunity to revive that tradition in Belmont today, but only Jim Steiner (R-Concord) took to the stump to speak.

Poll has Bradley beating Shea-Porter, Hodes leading potential opponents

A UNH poll contains good news for U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-Concord) but show trouble for U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester).

According to The Granite State Poll, Shea-Porter is losing to former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) 46 percent to 40 percent. However, the same poll has Shea-Porter beating Bradley's primary rival, former Health and Human Services Commissioner John Stephen 42 percent to 36 percent.
