Mr. President? About Social Security...

This isn't accurate, right?

After all the talk about "bi-partisanship" in  general and Judd Gregg in particular, you're not going to let him anywhere near a Social Security "reform" group, are you?

Because that is the LAST place to look for a bipartisan stamp. The Republican Party wants to eliminate Social Security and turn all that FICA money over to the stockbrokers. That's true even of the so-called moderates.

If you decide that cuts in benefits or extensions of the retirement age needed, the absolute worst thing you can do is get a Republican blessing of that conclusion. It would be like getting George Steinbrenner to say how great a Red Sox trade is.

Burling split over Edwards absence

DENVER -- A New Hampshire delegate for former U.S. Sen. John Edwards is torn over the absence from the Democratic National Convention of the man he supported during the New Hampshire primary.

State Sen. Peter Burling (D-Cornish) said "there's a yes and no answer" when asked whether he was disappointed that Edwards would not be speaking at the convention.

D’Allesandro ‘deeply saddened’ by news of Edwards affair

State Sen. Lou D'Allesandro (D-Manchester), a close friend of Elizabeth Edwards, says he is "deeply saddened" to learn the news that former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards has admitted an affair in an interview with ABC News.

D'Allesandro told PolitickerNH.com that he considers Elizabeth Edwards a "close, personal friend" and extends his sympathies to the family.

Edwards delegate endorses Obama

One of John Edwards's New Hampshire delegates has decided to endorse Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.).

State Rep. Sharon Nordgren (D-Hanover) becomes the fourth Edwards delegate to endorse Obama.

"I think the primary process has ended and it is important for the party to unite behind one candidate," Nordgren told PolitickerNH.com. "I feel comfortable enough with his positions to endorse him."

Nordgren also paid homage to Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY).

Two NH Edwards delegates back Obama

LEBANON -- Two New Hampshire delegates for John Edwards said this morning that when they go to the Democratic National Convention they will be voting for Barack Obama, PolitickerNH.com has learned.

State Sen. Peter Burling (D-Cornish) and Hanover activist Deborah Bacon-Nelson made the announcement this morning at Lebanon High School, where Bacon-Nelson is a teacher.

With his third-place finish in New Hampshire in January, Edwards secured four delegates in the Granite State. Nationwide he has 19 delegates.

Obama gains Edwards NH delegate

Barack Obama has gained a New Hampshire convention delegate.

Joshua Denton, who was a district delegate for John Edwards, has decided to endorse Obama, The Associated Press is reporting.

Denton is one of four delegates that Edwards won in the New Hampshire primary.

Obama campaign not planning to put-up candidates for DNC seats

Barack Obama's campaign is not planning to compete for either of New Hampshire's open at-large seats, Obama's senior state advisor says.

"The Obama campaign has no intention of putting up candidates for either of the Democratic National Committee positions," Demers said in an e-mail. "This is a time for New Hampshire Democrats to begin unifying for the November election and the contest for the National Committee positions is for the members of the New Hampshire Democratic State Committee to decide without any outside involvement."

Foster 'disappointed' Edwards dopping out of presidential race

Nashua State Senator Joe Foster said he was "disappointed" John Edwards was dropping out of the presidential race.

"I'm disappointed he's dropping out of the race, but I'm proud to be a part of his campaign in 2008 and in 2004," Foster said.

Foster said that Edwards' purposed policies elevated the level of debate.
