A Democratic State Should Have A Democratic Attorney General II

I found in my inbox this morning a blast e-mail from the irreplaceable Bill Siroty. In it, he mentioned an example of Attorney General Kelly Ayotte's right-wing activism that I had forgotten and I think merits recounting.

In the summer of 2008, the California Supreme Court declared "that California's ban on same-sex marriage violates the 'fundamental constitutional right to form a family relationship,'" and made same-sex marriage legal in the nation's largest state. This ruling was met with tooth-gnashing outrage by right-wingers and homophobes throughout our great land.

Throughout the country, politicians of the right searched for ways to make political hay out of the Court's decision.

Sununu Dynasty Holding NHGOP Hostage, Part II

DiStaso:
But for the moment, Republican activists remain enamored of John E. Sununu. The message consistently in GOP circles is that Sununu has first dibs on a candidacy, but they're hoping that he sends a message relatively soon on his plans so that others can begin raising money if he's not interested.
Or, you could have learned that here last Sunday, and that John & John are going to leave everyone hanging until "sometime around the summer," at which point, of course, they will be at a distinct money raising, name rec disadvantage.

What DiStaso does say explicitly for the first time, but doesn't surprise anyone with a pulse, is that both Fergus Cullen and Dukakis supporter John Stephen are gunning for Carol's seat if she runs for senate.

Will Crabgate Block Johnny Stephen/John E. Sununu Candidacies?

The thing about DC corruption scandals is that their tentacles are so long and so many.

A friend just reminded me of this prior post from Dean about Todd Boulanger and Johnny Stephen:

Republican 1st District U.S. House candidate John Stephen will meet potential Washington-based supporters at a meet-and-greet in the nation's capital tonight.
Invitations sent by lobbyist Todd Boulanger, a former associate of Jack Abramoff, say, "Come hear first-hand why John will be the winner of the September 9 primary and go on to defeat Porter (sic)," referring to Democratic Rep. Carol Shea-Porter.

So, out of curiouso, I checked Boulanger's 2008 cycle contributions on opensecrets, and guess what:

2009 rising Republican stars

Although 2008 saw the fall of several Republican heavyweights, it also gave birth to a group of Republicans who will shape the party, and New Hampshire, in 2009.

Below you will find a list of the top ten Republicans to watch for in the upcoming year.

10) Erin Hass: A former State Senate staffer, Hass has developed an impressive Rolodex and will be doing policy work for the Dennehy Group during the upcoming legislative session.

Bradley attributes defeat to national tide

Former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) is blaming a national Democratic tide for his defeat to U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester).

It was Bradley's second lost to Shea-Porter. In 2006, Shea-Porter pulled off a close upset against Bradley and this time around she beat him by over 20,000 votes.

"It was a nationwide tide against Republicans," Bradley said. "We were blamed for what happened with the economy and obviously other things and people felt the Democrats could bring the kind of change they wanted."
