Norelli reappoints House leadership

House Speaker Terie Norelli (D-Portsmouth) has reappointed two prominent Democratic state representatives to leadership positions.

Norelli's office announced on Monday that state Rep. Linda Foster (D-Mount Vernon) will continue on as deputy speaker and state Rep. Mary Jane Wallner (D-Concord) will once again serve as Democratic majority leader.

Foster and Wallner have served in the House for eight and 15 terms, respectively.

Norelli picks party caucus leaders

The New Hampshire House speaker picks the leaders for the political party caucuses and Speaker Norelli exercised that right earlier today.

Norelli selected state Rep. Mary Jane Wallner (D-Concord) to be House Democratic leader and state Rep. Sherman Packard (R-Londonderry) will be the House Republican leader. Both Wallner and Packard were voted to those positions by their respective caucuses in November and Norelli decided not to override those votes.

House committees report numbers

The committees to elect state representatives ended the filing period almost even in fundraising amounts, but the Democrats lead the Republicans in cash on hand, according to numbers filed Wednesday.

The Committee to Elect House Democrats reported that they raised almost $20,000 this cycle, while the House Republican Victory PAC raised $17,180. However the Democrats ended the period with a $72,890 surplus while the Republicans have $45,994 cash available.

Special session called to deal with budget

Gov. John Lynch (D-Hopkinton), Senate President Sylvia Larsen (D-Concord) and House Speaker Terie Norelli (D-Portsmouth) will call for a special session tomorrow to deal with the budget deficit.

Lynch will ask the Executive Council to approve the special session that will take place after the House and Senate hold their regular sessions.

Update: Norelli announces leadership changes

House Speaker Terie Norelli (D-Portsmouth) announced that three house committee vice chairs resigned from their positions.

Norelli said the changes came after she and Majority Leader Mary Jane Wallner met with House Committee leaders.
