Romney calls N.H. 'very, very close race'

MANCHESTER--Bucking polls that show John McCain with a double-digit deficit to Barack Obama, former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said that he thinks the race in New Hampshire is "very, very close."

"I'm seeing other polls, of course we all rely on the polls we like best, I'm seeing polls that our done by our campaigns that show this is a very, very close race," Romney told reporters  after visiting Oven Poppers.

Romney stumps for N.H. GOP candidates

MANCHESTER-- Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney campaigned at a local business for various Republican candidates.

The Republican presidential primary runner-up talked to workers at Oven Poppers about the importance of electing Doug Kruse (R-Manchester) to the state senate and former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) to the U.S. House.

Swift, Romney to campaign in Granite State

If you are a former Massachusetts Republican governor, there is a good chance you will be campaigning in New Hampshire tomorrow.

Both Gov. Jane Swift and Gov. Mitt Romney will be campaigning in the Granite State.

Romney is scheduled to attend events in the Manchester area for the congressional campaigns of Jeb Bradley and Jennifer Horn. Romney will also campaign for state senate candidate Doug Kruse (R-Manchester).

Swift will be participating in an educational roundtable in Hampton on behalf of John McCain's campaign.

Former GOP Bay State Gov. endorses Obama

SALEM-- Using words such as "deep calm," and "first class political temperament," former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld endorsed Barack Obama outside an Obama campaign office Friday.

Weld, a Republican, said that he has never endorsed a Democratic presidential nominee but sees Obama as someone who can unite the country and restore America's standing in the world.

"Senator Obama has spent his entire life bringing people together to solve problems," Weld told reporters at a press conference.

Romney endorses Horn

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has endorsed Jennifer Horn's congressional campaign.

Romney called Horn a "fresh face who understands the struggles of families across New Hampshire."

Horn (R-Nashua) is challenging U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-Concord) in the 2nd Congressional District.

Romney to hold Boston fundraiser for Sununu

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Former Gov. Mitt Romney is scheduled to hold a fundraiser for U.S. Sen. John Sununu at the end of September, PolitickerMA.com has learned.

The fundraiser will be held in Boston on Sept. 22, according to Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom.

Romney supporters look to potential McCain/Romney ticket

Two prominent New Hampshire supporters of Mitt Romney think he would be a strong pick for vice-president.

Reports have focused on the potential news that U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) could add his former primary rival to the national ticket.

"I hope that he does. We are fortunate to have a strong slate of vice-presidential prospects, but Romney stands out as an optimistic, take-charge leader who knows the economy better than anyone," Jim Merrill, Romney's former New Hampshire state director, told PolitickerNH.com.

Prominent Salem activist endorses Horn

Merrill named Devine Strategies managing director

Jim Merrill has been named the managing director of Devine Strategies LLC.

Merrill is the former New Hampshire campaign manager for Mitt Romney's campaign and was state field director for Bush/Cheney in 2000.
